‘Angels’ In Mystic Movies

Angels are the mystical entities that are believed to be god’s holy celestial beings, spiritual in nature and are sent by the almighty to spread his message and to guard the human race. The existence of guardian angels is a popular belief based on trust and love toward the divine that protects our life and faith from the evil and save us from doing the wrong such as in movies like ‘Touched by an Angel’

With the change and dynamism in popular cultures and interpretations, angels in movies do come in different and versatile forms and shape from cheeky cherubs or ethereal executive assistants. They are flexible and diligent and are ever helpful.

Hollywood has depicted the mystical presence of angels and portrayed it in different seraphic and beautiful expressions in cinemas from time to time. The image of angels in movies has taken different humane and contemporary forms and is metamorphosed interestingly into a variety of immortal characters. In the film ‘Michael’, the angel has been given a comical and light hearted disposition which seems to be unconcerned with petty human concepts of sin while fighting the devil and writing the Bible. In ‘Saving Grace’ the angel is humanized into a cigar smoker and tobacco chewer who’s not ignorant of its duties. In another of the mystic movies, called ‘Teen Angel’ the angel had done some harmless and helpful pranks that equate him with a teenager friend! The wonderful movie called ‘City of Angels’ has amazingly showcased the humanity and romance hidden in angels and preaches the lesson of sacrifice for true love. Next comes in ‘Angels in America’ another of the mystic movies, where this heavenly hermaphrodite who is far from chastity has been given a sensual appearance with flowing locks, Grecian robes and wings.

Hollywood mystic movie has intriguingly interpreted fallen angels, instead of guardian angels, and their pursuit for heaven. It is shown that even angels can sometimes hinder and take the help of treacherous means to gain power and recognition, such as in mystic movies like ‘Dogma’ and ‘Constantine’. When on earth, even angels do feel and express teenage angst and existential dilemma like in ‘Fallen’.
